Funding Research & Programs
Your Contributions Count.

The Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) organization as determined by the Internal Revenue Service and is approved by the Office of Personnel Management for participation in the Combined Federal Campaign.

How You Can Help
the Foundation Fighting Blindness funds urgent research with money raised through donations, Gifts of cash, securities, real estate, and life insurance - anything that can be converted into cash for research.

In addition, The Foundation has established a planned giving program to help our donors and The Foundation fulfill mutual objectives. While each planned gift will differ in its specific benefit to the donor and to The Foundation, all of these gifts will provide an estate tax or capital gains tax savings. Some may even provide income to you or to a loved one.

Here are some suggestions for how you can help:

Cash Gifts:
Cash, in the form of a check, is of course, the simplest way to donate.

Download a printable mail-in form here.

Bequests:
Naming The Foundation as one of the beneficiaries in your will can reduce your estate tax and immeasurably benefit our research programs.

Tributes & Memorials:
Supporters of the Foundation Fighting Blindness frequently make a donation to honor a loved one or a valued colleague. In addition, supporters often designate The Foundation as the recipient of donations in lieu of flowers being sent upon the death of a friend or family member. We would be happy to work with you to make individual arrangements for a sensitive situation in your life.

When you make a gift to The Foundation in the form of a Tribute, the person in honor of whom you sent the gift will receive a card with inside text that reads: the Foundation Fighting Blindness is grateful to be the recipient of a contribution donated by _(donor's name)_ towards research and programs to fight retinal degenerative diseases.

Pooled Income Fund:
Similar to a mutual fund, the collective contributions of participants are pooled together to provide the highest lifetime income yield for the beneficiaries.

Securities:
A donation of stocks and/or bonds is another way in which to generously donate to The Foundation. By donating stocks you have owned for more than 12 months and that have increased in value, you can derive an additional benefit in that you avoid having to pay the capital gains tax appreciated on those stocks or bonds.

Gifts of Real Estate:
Deeding land, a residence or a vacation property to The Foundation will provide substantial income for The Foundation, while saving you the cost of capital gains taxes, and estate taxes.

Workplace Giving Programs:
The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is the largest workplace-giving program in the world – for employees of the federal government, the postal service, and the uniform services. If you are a federal government or military employee and would like to donate to the Foundation Fighting Blindness through the CFC, please enter CFC code #11721 on your pledge card during the next campaign.

Dollars can also be donated to the Foundation Fighting Blindness through other workplace charitable campaigns such as United Way. These contributions are either one-time gifts or are fulfilled through payroll deduction, a program where employees choose specific amounts to be deducted from their paychecks and specific charities to receive their gifts. Code numbers vary from state-to-state and among local chapters of the United Way. Please check with your workplace-giving administrator to ensure accuracy, and write the Foundation Fighting Blindness on your pledge form.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the Foundation Fighting Blindness. A Cure is in Sight!

Gifts of Life Insurance:
Naming The Foundation as the owner of a life insurance policy that is no longer required for your personal financial security or the security of your family can result in a significant charitable income tax deduction.

Naming the Foundation as the owner and beneficiary of a policy for which all payments are current entitles you to a tax deduction equal to the cost basis of the policy. Were you to make a gift of a policy that hasn't been paid in full, you would still be entitled to a tax deduction roughly equal to the policy's cash surrender value.

You can also name The Foundation as a beneficiary or a partial beneficiary of a policy you retain.

Gifts of Tangible Personal Property:
Works of art, jewelry, equipment, and collections can be contributed with the appraised value of the property providing an income tax deduction for the donor.

Charitable Remainder Trusts:
A unitrust or annuity trust can provide lifetime income to you or another beneficiary, eliminate capital gains taxes from appreciated assets used to fund the trust, and provide a current income tax deduction.

Charitable Lead Trusts:
Funding a lead trust will afford the opportunity to pass assets to your children or grandchildren. The Foundation will benefit from the interest income during the term of the trust, and then transfer the assets back to you or to your heirs.

Matching Gifts:
Give your gift a lift! Many employers match their employees’ gifts. Some employers even double or triple your contribution. Ask your employer for your company’s form and submit it to the Foundation Fighting Blindness to complete and return to maximize your gift! Please note: Donations for events or to purchase items are not eligible for matching from employers. To learn more call: 800-683-5555.

If you have already arranged for planned giving to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, we thank you and remind you of The Foundation's new legal name: the Foundation Fighting Blindness, Inc. Please take the opportunity to change or add a codicil in your will to reflect the new name in any specific bequest you may have made.
